Presidents Comments:

I would like to thank all past-present permit holders for there support over the years as well as vendors & property owners for there local support. Last year we were able to finish trail #747 from
Chandos Lake to

James Road
, Apsley. We are now looking to take trail off
James Road
& meet up with E 107 north of
Jacks Lake Road
. This will complete a Touring Loop with no lakes to cross making it groomable earlier. E107 to 706 to 747 back onto E107 for a 90km Loop starting at Nephton, County Road #6 .We are working to get a plowed parking area in Nephton for this season as well as two other parking areas to be announced soon please check our website for details. Stoney Lake Sno Riders are continuously looking at improving the club trails with your PERMIT support. Lets have a great winter and Be Safe.

PRAY FOR SNOW !!

Cheers

Ray Northey

Trails: There has been much interest in trail #706 from Chandos Lake to Glen Alda, fortunately we were able to open this trail late last season. We are still working to find a better route off of the local roads but so far with little success – if there are any members in this area interested in helping with this trail please contact us. As a district 2 project all clubs within the district installed new & improved destination signage at all TOP trail junctions last fall – a big thanks to Chris McIntyre for his hard work with this project.

This fall we also have a number of projects, including plans to install a number of culverts along E107, rerouting of trail #747, rerouting of trail #704, along with widening of trail sections to accommodate the new front blade we will be installing on the Ford groomer this fall. As always we can always use volunteers for trail work (as well as many other jobs). If you can spare some time, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Map Boards: Most of you have likely noticed the new map boards being installed at some of our trail junctions. When complete there will be maps and advertising at all of our main trail junctions, this will help riders to find their way to amenities throughout the area. Thanks to Glen Bugg for his work on this project. Anyone interested in advertising please contact the club.

A NOTE TO ATV RIDERS: All of our trails are for snowmobile use only. Many of them travel across private property for which permission has been given for snowmobiles only. We have been fortunate to have not lost any trails due to trespassers (yet). Remember your activities in the summer season may result in having no trail to ride on during the winter months. Thanks to a grant from the OFSC we will be installing many gates on the trails this fall to help reduce trespassing.

FALL 2008

A message from your New President:

Well  Snowmobile people out there, I have a very important message for you.

The board of directors of the Stoney Lake Sno riders have a mandate; to develop maintain and groom our trails to a new level. With the help of past volunteers and you (our new volunteer) we will be able to get the job done. So if you can find some time, even if it's a couple of hours a season, which could be any one of the four seasons, please let us know. Our landowners are an integral part of our fun in the white stuff; we are working ways to recognize their contributions to our club. We also want to bring fun back into this sport, we'll keep you posted on that front. Trail permits are now available, so get them as soon as possible to not only help your club, but to get in on the free gas draw. See you at the show in Peterborough and keep smiling, because we are going to have some fun this year.

LET IT SNOW!
Wayne Orcutt

A Word from the VP:

Hello fellow sledders!

Where did summer go? I guess everyone’s question is are we going to have lot’s of snow this year? Last year was awesome, the large groomer ran 3 times the amount of the previous year. The trails were better than most highways!

Permit sales were also up again from the previous year, and we would like to thank all of our permit holders for your support in 07/08. Also a big thank you to our landowners for the use of their property. Also we would like to thank our vendors for their support. A big thank you to all of our volunteers for your hard work!

Our new trail maps look a little different this year, all trails have been GPS'd so the maps reflect this more accurate data. We have been back to work on the # 747 to Apsley (James Rd.). We are about 2 kms from completing the work begun last year. Work on E107 from Nephton to Jacks Lake fixing up water holes has also begun.

We are currently working to open a new trail to Dunsford Rd. for access to food and gas. This trail will be # 702. We are working on 5 new sign boards along with map holders to be located on our trail system, showing gas, food, etc.

Anyone wanting to volunteer please call:
Ray Northey – 741-6731 or 654-1146,
Wayne Orcutt- 654-4441,
Steve Jorgensen- 652-1909.

Again, Thanks To Everyone For Supporting Stoney Lake Sno Riders!
Ray Northey, Vice President

GROOMING:

Over the past couple of years our grooming has been improving. Well, expect even better this year with the addition of more groomer operators + increased grooming frequency on most of our trails. >

NEW WEBSITE :  WWW.STONEYLAKESNORIDERS.CA  Late last winter we launched our new website (much thanks to Bill Baldasti). It offers a much more modern look as well as more up to date information for you – our members. Trail condition reporting has been increased to every day so you will know what the trails are like with just a click of your mouse.  Look for more features to be added this fall – just in time for winter.

PERMIT INFORMATION:  We are pleased to have trail passes at the same price again this season, with an early purchase price of $180.00 if bought on or before Dec 1st/08.  The 3 Day & 7 Day permits will also be available this season. You may purchase your permit at any of the following locations or fax your request to 705-654-3436 using the enclosed order form or download one from our website.  You may pay by cheque, VISA or MasterCard.  If paying with VISA or MasterCard please print and sign your name along with card number and expiration and a permit will be mailed to you.  You need to also fill in your sled VIN # in the appropriate box whether you purchase by mail, fax or at a permit vendor. Please keep in mind if you do not mark the box “to allow address for OFSC mailing purposes” you will not receive mailings from your club – if you would be interested in receiving club mailings/updates by email, send your email address to mail@stoneylakesnoriders.ca

THANK YOU TO ALL VOLUNTEERS!  We thank all of our dedicated volunteers who put in countless hours into our trail system.  From the building of trails, brushing, signing, grooming etc--we couldn't & wouldn't have one of the finest trail systems without you!  For all of our volunteers behind the scenes, your contributions are immeasurable and appreciated.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FALL 2007 Newsletter

VOLUNTEERING:  Our club executives volunteer their time toward the betterment of our club and snowmobiling.  We attend monthly club meetings, monthly district meetings and yearly training sessions pertaining to risk management, signage and grooming techniques.

With so much work to be done on the trails and so few volunteers to share the load, we are in need of more bodies...WE NEED YOU!!  Should you have the use of a chain saw for cutting brush or can spare a few hours moving brush we would love to hear from you.  For those that have interest in organizing club events, secretarial work or other club duties, we would welcome your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.  If you can help us out, please call Chris Petraitis, Club Volunteer Coordinator at 705-877-1136, or call any member on the SLSC executive.  Together, we can make a difference...

Come spring 2008 the OFSC will once again have a draw for one Volunteer province wide to win a 2008 Polaris snowmobile!  Volunteering for 1 to 10 hours = 1 chance to win, 10 to 150 hours = 2 chances to win and 150+ hours = 3 chances to win.  Just give Chris a call if you would like to become a volunteer with our club!

A SPECIAL THANK YOU to all landowners who have volunteered the winter use of their property to accommodate our trail system for the enjoyment of snowmobiling.

This season's Landowner Appreciation Program will be a random draw of OFSC Landowner names with the recognition of landowners and their valuable contribution to organized snowmobiling...1060 Pre-Paid $50.00 Gift Cards

Please respect our landowners and should you encounter one of these generous people please stop, shake their hand and thank them for their kind generosity.  Our club hopes to have all these properties posted with signs indicating snowmobiles only.  Recently, our club has had contact with a couple of landowners along Trail #747.  We hope to make much needed repairs to this section of 747 to accommodate our large groomer which will see Chandos Lake to
James Road
(Apsley) trail groomed.  We have lost one property owner on Trail #704 near Glen Alda due in part to ATV use over this past summer.

Signage & Lake Markers The destination, stop, directional, cautionary and etc. signs have been standardized across the province for the sole purpose of promoting safety.  Each sign and post costs the club about $20.00 of your permit dollars and the orange markers you see on the lakes cost $8.00 and our club volunteers erect and maintain them.  Last season someone removed most of the markers on Stoney Lake , and this inconsiderate act cost your club over 10 volunteer hours to re-install.  This past summer some cautionary and stop signs have been damage or stolen.  These signs and markers have been installed for public safety and if you see someone damaging these markers please give the proper authorities a call, it could save a life.

PERMIT INFORMATION:  We are pleased to have trail passes at the same price again this season, with an early purchase price of $180.00 if bought on or before Dec 1st/07.  The 3 Day & 7 Day permits will also be available this season, please check our website for locations - www.stoneylakesnoriders.ca.  You may purchase your permit at any of the following locations or fax your request to 705-654-3436 using the enclosed order form.  You may pay by cheque, VISA or MasterCard.  If paying with VISA or MasterCard please print and sign your name along with card number and expiration and a permit will be mailed to you.  You should also fill in your sled VIN # in the appropriate box whether you purchase by mail, fax or at a permit vendor.
